Leather – Our Quality Standard
Leather is such a popular product today that consumers often lose the link to where it originally came from. The fact is that material is a natural product and therefore it is subject to natural differences. Today we would like to tell you a few facts about the topic – a material that is of particular importance to us at Pcaro.
Differences in leather
The most obvious differences are of course different types of leather, each derived from different species. This not only affects the color and thickness of the final product, but also its texture. As a rule, we as consumers also have specific preferences. For example, for leather gloves we may like leather with a different skin feel than we would prefer for our shoes. The material that we choose for our mobile phone cases, we therefore pay particular attention to not only that it has a proper protective function, but also feels good in the hand.
These factors determine the quality
Breed – Be it cattle, sheep or goat: leather is also produced today from most domesticated animal species. Cowhide, however, is by far the most widely used, which is also due to the size of the animal itself.
Age – The age of the animal has a big impact on the subsequent quality of the leather. Thus, from younger animals often significantly high quality leather is obtained, as of older animals.
Attitude – The attitude of an animal has a great influence not only on the flesh. The more an animal has an outlet, the better the structure of the leather is in the end.
Gender – Here, the skin of female animals has a finer grain. Therefore, it is often preferred in the industry.
Activity Level – Especially gender-specific activities affect the skin. The more often a male animal has covered or, for example, a cow has calved, the worse it will have on the feeling of fiber in the end.
Nutrition – The better the animal was fed before slaughter, the better the product will be in the end. Forage has a particularly favorable effect on the quality.
Climate – The colder the environment of the animal, the better the later skin feeling.
We hope you could gain a small impression of the great variety that exists in leather. If you still have further questions on the topic, you can put them in the comments. We are happy if we can help you.
